2007-01-26, Six of horse racing’s most highly-respected and influential names have joined the exclusive ranks of great Australians to feature on postage stamps.
Bart Cummings, Roy Higgins, Bob Ingham, George Moore, and John Tapp and the late Arthur ‘Scobie’ Breasley have been awarded the 2007 Australia Post Australian Legends Award and are now immortalize in a stamp issue
George Moore was a force in Sydney racing, winning a record 10 Sydney Jockeys’ Premierships between 1957 and 1969. He won five AJC and two VRC Derbies, two W.S. Cox Plates, three Sydney Cups and two Golden Slippers.
Announced each year on Australia Day, the Australia Post Australian Legends Award recognizes great Australians who have made lifetime contributions to the development of the national identity and character.
The 2007 Australian Legends stamp issue features 12 x 50c stamps, two first day covers, a set of maxicards, a stamp pack and three stamp booklets. A commemorative biography titled A Rare Breed: Legends of Australian Horse Racing.
