1780-05-04 inaugural Derby DIOMED

Hong Kong Derby was quietly inaugurated in 1873, 27 years after the 1846 inaugural Ladies’ Purse; 1780-05-04 Thursday, the inaugural running of the original Derby was held at Epsom, derived from the inaugural fillies’ Oaks, was won by Sir Charles Bunbury, 6th Baronet’s horse DIOMED. It was an legendary story in the History of British racing.
