Philip Waldron had never sat on a horse until he was 15.


In England, he was 20 years old and became the top jockey and Leading Apprentices of 1970 with 59 when Pat Eddery ended up with 57 wins.


He rode a lot of horses for the Queen, with a total of 21 winners for Her Majesty.

1950-05-27, Philip was born in Reading England.


1965, he had his first riding lesson.


1966 to 1971, he served a five year Apprenticeship with Trainer Ian Balding.


1968, ALDIE was his first winner.


1970, he was the English Champion Apprentice.


1971 to 1974, jockey to Ian Balding with retainers from G Smyth (2nd) and D Candy (3rd) Stable.


1974 to 1982, as stable jockey to Henry Candy.


1982 to 1986, as stable jockey to Geoff Lewis.


1987, arrived in Hong Kong.


1987-10-04, SILVER BALL (BC119) was his first winner in Hong Kong.


1986/1987 Season until 1989/1990 Season, he rode in Hong Kong as a Club Jockey.


1990 till 1996, he rode in Macau, apart from two short stints in Mauritius.


1996 to 2000, he worked for the Macau Jockey Club as Starter and Master of Apprentices.


2000 to 2007, as Starter and Head Race Riding Instructor with the Hong Kong Jockey Club.


2013, as Deputy Starter and Head Race Riding Instructor Racing Development Board (RDB) with the Hong Kong Jockey Club.


2015, retired from the Hong Kong Jockey Club and only occasionally attended International Races with Brian Rouse.





From the year 1968 to 1996 as a Professional Jockey, rode over 2000 winners’ world wide.

England, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Belgium, Jersey, Canada, Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, Macau, Mauritius, Kenya, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados.


Winning many Group 1, 2 and 3s in the above countries.

Coral Eclipse, Benson and Hedges Gold Cup, Coronation Gold Cup, 2nd English Derby, 2nd Champion Stakes.
