ROBINSON, Philip


 

Champion Apprentice Twice In UK

 

1961-01-10, Philip was born in Newmarket, England.

 

His father Peter Robinson, was a successful jockey and trainer.

 

1964, Philip had his first riding lesson, approximately age 4.

 

1978, he scored his first winner at Great Yarmouth Racecourse, for his father.

 

1979, he indentured with Frankie Durr, and spent some apprentice years in Hong Kong.

 

1979 and 1980, he was British flat racing Champion Apprentice.

 

1980-02-09, he landed his first Hong Kong winner CHIC CHIC, trained by G Sofronoff, Race 3, Class 5 Happy Valley Turf 2230, twelve runners.

 

1987, he started riding in Hong Kong full time.

 

1997 May, he got his last winner in Hong Kong.

 

1997-06-07, his last ride in Hong Kong, on CASEY’S DRUM, trained by D Hill, ST Turf 1400.

 

1997 afterwards, he was the regular jockey for the Michael Jarvis stable for many years.

 

2011, Robinson moved to ride for veteran trainer Clive Brittain, after the retirement of Michael Jarvis.

 

2011-09-24, he drew stumps on a 33-year career with his final ride on ARLEQUIN at Cambridgeshire.

    1989-90 and 1990–91, Champion Jockey there on two occasions, in making him the only English Jockey to achieve this feat.

     

    Philip is well respected for having a great tactical understanding of and approach to race-riding.
