Australian Hall of Fame Racehorse Trainer
David A. Hayes is a prominent Australian Thoroughbred racehorse trainer and son of legendary trainer Colin Hayes.
His elder brother, Peter Hayes was a leading trainer too.
1962-10-22, David Hayes was born.
1990 trained Japan Cup winner BETTER LOOSEN UP.
1990 Victoria Derby Day, he won a world record of six Group race winners.
1994 trained Melbourne Cup winner JEUNE
1995 racked up over 1,000 winners and landed trainers’ premierships in Victoria and South Australia.
1996, started training in Hong Kong.
1997-98, won the Hong Kong trainers’ premiership.
1998-99, won the Hong Kong trainers’ premiership again.
In each of his nine seasons, he had been in the top four in Hong Kong Trainer’s Ranking.
He has since sent out over 450 Hong Kong winners.
Including 15 list races and eight Gr.1 victories such as:
2000-01-23 RESFA The Stewards’ Cup.
2001 CHARMING CITY the Best Sprinter.
2002 HK Sprint star ALL THRILLS TOO, the first Hong Kong horse won the international Class 1 race.
2003, HK Derby heroine ELEGANT FASHION.
2003/04 Champion Griffin GREAT WIN.
2005-06-23, he returned to his home in Australia to take charge of his family’s famous Lindsay Park Stud in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.
2008, he became the youngest member to be admitted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
2011, he has trained in excess of 2800 winners totally, with a total of 78 list races or Group One winners,
(60 in Australia, 17 in Hong Kong and 1 in Japan)
including Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup and Golden Slipper winners.
