Second Five-timer Of The Same Season

At a sunny race day in Sha Tin, the reigning champion became another Ace winner.

INTRODUCTION

He took the opener on TURF CHAMP for Ivan Allan.
His determined riding style managed to get the rails run on, even drawn in stall 13 of a 14 field.
Then scoring a treble for D Hill successively.
In the main event, he pitched in with a great ride on stayer FORTUNE LEADER to get the trophy.
He came flashing home on T P Cheung’s OPTIC EMPIRE to complete a perfect day.

BACKGROUND

Race 1
TURF CHAMP, a 4.5 favorite, closely followed from the early running.
He paced comfortably and sprinted clear with MAGIC JOY.
It was a two-horse race and the winner won convincingly in 1:11.0

Race 2
THINK TANK was well back in 10th place at the rear soon after the start.
At the half way, he was a fast improving fifth.
He got up to win easily by two length and proved too strong in the final stages.

Race 3
LIONHEART was placed in ninth spot at the rear when out of the gate.
He still was the eighth into the straight, but became too strong close to home.
Making up ground from behind, he had three parts of a length at the finish.

Race 6
FORTUNE LEADER was hard ridden to stay a close third after rounding the first band.
He finished best to lead inside the 100 metres.
Then he had two lengths to spare over the second horse.

Race 8
OPTIC EMPIRE raced just ahead of the last of the field in the early running.
He then placed well in sixth position and looked a big chance on the home bend.
His strong finish dashed a winning by clearly over a length.
