Michael J. Kinane (born 22 June 1959 at Killenaule in County Tipperary, Ireland) is a former flat racing jockey.

His rise to fame in the early 90s, he almost scored the important races in the Northern & Southern Hemispheres.

 

 

 

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

 

Mike has over 60 Group 1 winners to his name including:

  • 2 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe,
  • 4 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes
  • 20+ Classic winners throughout Europe
  • the Belmont Stakes in USA
  • 6 Breeders’ Cups
  • 1 Melbourne Cup.
  • 13 times the Irish champion

    Kinane severed a 15-year link with trainer Dermot Weld

     

    1998-10-as Aidan O’Brien’s stable jockey, then he won the English and Irish Derby double on GALILEO

     

     

     

    VICTORIES IN HOMG KONG

     

    Mick Kinane landed the Hong Kong Gold Cup on IDOL to add to a portfolio of big race successes in Hong Kong

     

    His victories include two wins apiece in the Hong Kong Derby and the old Hong Kong International Bowl and the Hong Kong International Vase once.

    During Mike rode in Hong Kong, he had a lot of winners, the winning rate of over ten percent.

     

     

     

    SUMMARY

     

    Mick Kinane,had a 34-year career with prolific winners of nearly all the top class major races all around the world.

     

    He retired at the end of 2009, a season which was highlighted by his association with the legendary galloper SEA THE STARS.

    Mick Kinane’s father, Tommy Kinane, was a leading National Hunt jockey who won the Champion Hurdle on MONKSFIELD.
